East of the Mississippi much of the land has been turned over to human use.  As agriculture and timber production moved west, we have given back to nature small parcels of land to reuse.  Land that remains surrounded by human activity.  Perhaps this land has become rewilded - not returning to a prior state, but to a new wild. Developing to that state both on its own and under the influence of humans.

For years, I have walked and photographed in these isolated pockets of forests.  I feel wonder in what these lands have become in their forms, structures, and geometries.  Walking also leads to random thoughts about the wonder of these lands.  How the rewilding shows the complexity, tenacity, and beauty of the land left to its own devices.  Born from these thoughts, my work envisions a different view of the land and forest.  A vision of the forest's past, its resilience or lack of it, or how it will be in the future.
